Born and raised in London, artist Jack Mercer aka VC Pines is possessed with an uncanny ability to transport his listeners to completely new territory. After the release of his highly impressive debut collection ‘Skully’ in 2020, the singer and songwriter stepped things up a notch when he returned with the 2021 follow-up ‘Concrete’.
Featuring the singles ‘Smoke Without Fire’ and Bad Sounds collaboration ‘See You Soon’, the release found acclaim with the likes of Jack Saunders’ on his BBC Radio 1 show, BBC Radio 2’s Jo Whiley, BBC 6Music’s Shaun Keavney, and Radio X’s Jon Kennedy, as well as landing with online tastemakers Wonderland, The Independent, Under The Radar, and SPIN.
The alt-soul singer-songwriter, has temporal lobe epilepsy and synesthesia; the latter a symptom of the former, he believes, which means his senses merge and he experiences colours in connection with certain sounds or words.
He started suffering seizures while at college in London at 17, and when his epilepsy was at its worst they were happening almost daily. It was a scary time. He has learned to love the way his brain works, and is sharing his story through his music.
While still only in his infancy, VC Pines is quickly becoming one of the most beloved new artists of today, and continues to improve and captivate with every offering to date.
