Douglas Frost (he/him) is a multi-instrumentalist, composer and member of the 2024 Mercury Prize winning group English Teacher. The band’s debut, This Could Be Texas, earned widespread acclaim for its intricate musicianship and intelligent songwriting, blending a rich range of influences into an expansive, diverse album. English Teacher’s work has been celebrated by the likes of Wonderland, Rolling Stone, NME, and The Guardian.
A technically skilled recording and performing musician, Douglas works across a variety of styles and instruments. His solo work is often inspired by electroacoustic compositional techniques, driven by a focus on crafting original and distinctive sound worlds. Recent work includes scoring Getaway, a short film starring Shygirl and Michael Workéyè, which premiered at SXSW London in summer 2025.
Raised in a musical household, Douglas first learned piano, trombone, and guitar, before going on to study jazz drumming and composition at Leeds Conservatoire - where he would go on to form English Teacher.
